47 kilometres north-west of Dalby, on the Warrego Highway, is the small country town of Warra. The area has become famous for its rich agricultural heritage valued annually at over $80 million.
The Richard Best Memorial Park is home to the restored former Warra Railway Station. It houses the Progress and Heritage Society Museum with displays changing regularly. Picnic facilities including seating, tables, barbecues, and toilets are available. Camping is allowed for a donation.
The historical Warra Hotel, established in 1906, is worth a look. It is a grand rambling structure and a fine example of the architecture that has become commonly known as a "Queenslander". Meals and refreshments are available. Wal, the publican - who has been in the hotel for as long as anyone can remember - will be very happy to have a yarn on life in Warra and what to see and do while there.
Within walking distance of the park on the Condamine River is the 1844 campsite of explorer Ludwig Leichhardt. There is a coloured cotton farm and insectory to visit near town.
Anglers may be rewarded with a catch of Yellowbelly or Murray Cod from the banks of the Condamine River and there are many species of grass birds to be seen on the birding trails. Camping is also allowed at the Warra Weir or alternatively there is hotel accommodation at the Warra Hotel.
