Aquasearch lab and aquarium is a small privately owned facility which features 22 year old/85 kilogram aquacultured giant clams as well as cultured clown anemonefish (Nemo's relatives) and other marine fish and invertebrates. The giant clams are a CITES-listed threatened species and at Aquasearch aquarium there is a touch tank for these amazing emblems of the coral reef.
The display is unique in that clownfish swim amongst giant clams, something unseen in nature because of competition between fish species. Dr. Rick Braley is a world expert on giant clams and has considerable expertise in pearl oyster culture and ornamental fish culture. If you are not able to snorkel or dive on Magnetic Island come in to Aquasearch aquarium for a view of some classic coral reef organisms.
Bookings are necessary for full tours, which include the marine display, a lab tour including a view under the microscope, and a video at the house. Special Educational Tours for schools are also available.
