They, the Djabugay people, are the traditional owner's of the land around Kuranda. They were recently recognised as native title holder's for Barron Gorge National Park. Their rainforest culture is unique and ancient. For many years they have worked to protect and maintain their cultural sites. This included development of a walking trail at Bare Hill and protection of their rock art sites.
They are a nature-based tourism business owned exclusively by the Djabugay Business Development Aboriginal Corporation. Willie Brim, the 2006 Gnunkai Award Winner (for Indigenous-based tourism), and 2005 Cassowary Award Winner (for nature-based tourism), is the Chairperson of the Djabugay Tribal Aboriginal Corporation (DTAC), and began Djabugay Country Tours as a result of the community's desire to strive into the future through language programmes, education, and most importantly gainful employment.
In 2004, they established Djabugay Country Tours. This business is designed for those visitors wanting a unique and special experience, and who want to walk the country with the Traditional Owners. Djabugay Country Tours is 100 per cent community owned with profits going back to their community for social and economic purposes. Join them for a day you won't forget!!
