Out and About
Warrnambool is a beautiful seaside city, which has seen over 100 shipwrecks on the coastline, the most famous being the Loch Ard in 1878, which claimed all but two lives of those on board.
Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum in Merri St has reconstructed a 19th century Maritime Village. Some of the attractions are seal and whale exploration, themes of Aboriginal history, tapestry, and immigration of the first settlements. This also includes the famous earthenware Loch Ard Peacock which was recovered from the Loch Ard wreck.

The rare Southern Right whales make their annual visit along the coastline near Warrnambool. This is usually between June and September . A viewing platform has been constructed near the well known Logan's beach observatory at the entrance of the Hopkins River.

Warrnambool has so many different features to offer the traveler. From nature walks for the enthusiast, to family amusements near Lake Pertrobe. The great thing about Warrnambool is that, if you are planning to stay for a period of time, it can be used as a base for viewing the district and surrounding coastline. The 12 Apostles, which is located along the Great Ocean Road, and the Great South Walk near Portland, is approximately 1 and a 1/2 hours drive from Warrnambool.
