Nelson
In the south-west corner of Victoria, on the last stretch of the Great Ocean Road and just 2.5 kilometres from the Glenelg River mouth where the township of Nelson nestles. Surf and estuary beaches, fishing, canoe and boat hire, river cruises to Princess Margaret Rose Caves, and two magnificent National Parks are nearby. Experience the Mount Gambier Stone Farmhouse with large rooms, high ceilings, wood-fire heating and offering basic, functional furniture and fittings so that the whole family can rest and relax. The renovated Dairy also offers accommodation and camping. The main bedroom has a queen size bed with single beds and bunks in the other two bedrooms. There is a separate lounge and a futon in the family room. Gas cooking equipment, microwave, cutlery, and crockery are all provided and a washing machine is fitted in one of the two bathrooms. A lockable garage at one end of the house allows easy movement of luggage whilst cars, caravan, or trailer boat may be parked under cover in the Machinery Shed. The Farmhouse is a half-hour drive from Mount Gambier and is situated on a 180-acre property, which consists of two large swamps, coastal hills, valleys and flats. The property is undergoing a revegetation program to re-create the early ecology of the land, so guests can enjoy native Australian flora and fauna. About half the property has been fenced off (including both swamps) and is recovering from previous livestock intrusion. Thousands of native trees have been established and permanent waterholes have been dug in each swamp for the use of native animals. Recommended Day trips include: * Cape Bridgewater * Princess Margaret Rose Caves * Piccaninie Ponds * Ewens Ponds and Eight Mile Creek * Famous Blue Lake and Umpherston Sinkhole * Penola (historic town) * Coonawarra Vineyards * Naracoorte Caves
